#ShareTheLove Photo Booth
This Sunday, The Harbour Bar is delighted to be hosting Marriage Equality's #ShareTheLove Launch Party. You've probably seen our photo booth kiss posters in the bar or online - we thought we'd share the story behind the design!
Getting a strip of cute, funny or cheesy photobooth photos has long been a rite of passage for young lovers and one that takes on an extra, somewhat heartbreaking, historical significance for LGBT couples. These two photographs of a young gay couple, taken in 1953 when the pair could have been imprisoned because of this kiss, were the inspiration behind our posters.
Long before iPhones, digital cameras and home printers, photo booths were one of the few ways gay couples could safely have their photograph taken together. Behind the curtain, without a human photographer or developer involved, the couple were afforded a degree of privacy where they could show affection and get a rare and precious keepsake of their relationship without the risk of being reported to the police.
We thought this depicted of how far the Gay Rights Movement has come in the past 50 years, while also recognising that equality has not yet been achieved. As a little tribute to this and to the rich tradition of the wonderful photo booth kiss, we’ve installed a booth in the yard (beside The Big Dog’s Galley) - so come on down, hop in with your best friend or sweetheart and get two strips of good old fashioned selfies to take away and cherish!

From 2pm Sunday, 1 March
Marriage Equality supporters are being invited to come out in force for a day long #ShareTheLove party at The Harbour Bar in Bray on Sunday, 1 March, and we’ve got a great day in store for you!
Billed as a flagship event to fund the national campaign for a YES Vote in May’s Referendum a day of entertainment will start at 2pm with a photocall at the bar and a full day of craic, comedy, music and speakers (and some rugby to boot!). Following the photocall (we encourage everyone to come down and join in!) we’ll have speakers from Marriage Equality, we’ll have the rugby on the big screen (COYBIG!), we have a raffle with some great prizes and we have a host of great bands playing live!
The live music kicks off at 17:30 in The Harbour Bar with singer-songwriter Luke Maloney. Original and energetic folk-rocker Jamie Duff will take the the stage from 18:10. Fingerstyle guitar expert Robbie Doyle is up next at 18:50. We’ve got Dylan Walshe, London based alt/roots musician and songwriter on hand to keep you going from 19:45. Expect a gorgeous acoustic melty-pot of jazz and folk from the amazing female 3 piece Mongoose at21:00 - lush! To end the live music proceedings we have the always brilliant Sligo roots/country rockers Old Hannah, kicking off at 22:15. We’ll also have some great comedy, too! Details to be announced soon.
Announcing the event Denise Charlton of #ShareTheLove for Marriage Equality said, “Through #ShareTheLove we have encouraged people to invest in history with a donation to Marriage Equality. Through our crowdfunding effort we are showing that making history is no longer the preserve of those individuals or groups who have access to million euro bank balances. Our message is clear ‘Together we can make history’. We are confident that people enjoying the event at the Harbour Bar will answer our call.”
At The Harbour Bar we believe in equality for all and want to invite YOU to come down to show your support for what will be a historic referendum. We’re putting on what promises to be a brilliant day out for an amazing cause. Dress up, dress down, bring your mates, bring your mum. Come and #ShareTheLove, enjoy the bands and check out the speakers. Relax in front of the fire? YES! Get up close to the music? YES! Grab a raffle ticket and settle in to cheer on the boys in green? YES! Get a snap to show your support in our unique Harbour Bar PhotoBooth? YES! Support Marriage Equality? YES!
